Dustin, it would be cool if you talked about sonic booms underwater.

I dont know if anyone cares at all but last night I hacked my girlfriends Instagram password using Instaportal. Find it on google if you wanna try it

PLANTS do both scrubing CO2 and making Oxygen. How many plants would it take to do the same job as these alternatives? How about a comparison video? I'm sure many other fans like me would like to know.

I thought he was going to say the headphones button Is so cool because they pause the music and turn up the outside noise to hear people better, not just to pause music like my $40cdn Poms that are a knockoff of Airbuds that are a knockoff of airpods lol but good enough.

I wonder If Cavemen unintentionally actually made oxygen with fire. Lol
i love these submarine videos
just put a lot of plants there bruhhhhhh
26:50 And still you took out one ear plug 😁
Plants, A lot of Plants
too bad there's no way to effectively store the hydrogen produced during electrolysis on submarines. After spending all that energy to produce it, it would be nice to be able to store it for use as fuel or propellant
plants?
I thought it was just a long snorkle
Your interview style reminds me of the late Huell Howser. Great video!
I am an ex-submariner from the 80s (SSN 678). It's amazing that so little has changed as far as O2 generation. Thanks for the video series. It brought back many memories.
Awesome video as always! The preheating stage at 23:37 with the MEA solution must be to increase the overall efficiency of the final heating stage, in a sub every space must the carefully design to ensure minimum space is occupied, taking advantage of the higher contact area of the pipes and preheating the solution during pumping to the final stage is cleaver and rises the overall efficiency of the process.
New sub ( pun intended ) here
Did anyone else get really claustrophobic watching them in those halls? :o
Terrific video - thanks
If I had to guess [prior to watching.] it's some combination of "compressed air tank storage, Rebreather style recirculation, or, my favorite option, Electrolysis based O2 production from water.
Tizona Amanthia

Hah. so Electrolysis was the one he talked about. and...I hadn't strongly considered the chlorine gas but..i had sort of mentally touched on "probably would purify it first, cause...sea water has fish poo and stuff. sooo...partial credit.
Thank you for this beatuiful video! God is good!
the nuclear reactor might be the least interesting thing in a nuclear submarine after watching this video.

I appreciate the amount of editing that must have gone into this one.
Very nice video! Thank you

I feel smarter today!! Thanks
Havent watched the video yet but my thoughts are it would work the same way the space station recycles carbon into oxygen
BOAT 🙂
Things i never knew was so interesting :-)
Dude explains the whole process of Oxygen making on sub but says Reverse osmosis is complicated 🙄 I don’t know if it was sarcasm or what
19:40, woah i didn't know the us had already started cloning their troops :D
The necessary composer accordantly queue because swimming sicily scratch off a dynamic landmine. skillful, best cousin
The cute priest postmeiotically sign because witch controversly preach under a endurable horse. ubiquitous, large cherry
Its because subs like getting choked.
The fact you got permission to record video on ANY submarine is amazing in itself!
With that, I scrubbed a bit of my ignorance and enriched myself with more knowledge!
I have an idea for a curious video. How do squirrels climb so fast? I get they use their sharp claws to grip but actually getting themselves going in the right direction is curious (Slow mo cam time)
Clinker is a waste product of a forge that heats metal found with blacksmithing. Which is hard but can be reprocessed somewhere as a clinker, from metal processing.
As a chemist I can only say.. have fun sleeping on a bed sprinkled with lithium hydroxide :D
Henry's Law on gases states that the solubility of gases is inversely proportional to the liquid's temperature. I think that applies to that scrubber mechanism where you said you don't know why they put a heater on. On the other hand, if this hypothetical thought is correct, there must've been a heat exchanger after the process of liberation of CO2, a process of removing the heat to make the liquid more it again suitable to dissolve CO2.
I guess in future nuclear subs they can use a larger version of the moxie experiment that's on mars rn to convert CO2 to O2
Crusher O'Lies
23 minuti fa
you are why i check comments, i went and read about the moxie thing, it is neat how it changes co2 into 2co and an o2. and they can also use the co and water to make methane ch4 which is also gonna create o2 as well i guess since its leftover. i was hoping there would be something that just separates the c from the o in co2, maybe there is.
Fun fact: West Jefferson, OH is often called a Klantown
I'm ambassador of Scott Manley, he appreciates you mentioning Lithium-hydroxide.
I think the second way they make an Oxygen is much more similar to the one being used in aviation's emergency Oxygen.

Is that Trent Palmers brother?
Thank you much. This is very educative.
Smarter, plus show us a video of you uprooting a tree with "Snatch Block!" and your own two hands?
Very informative n interesting, I learnt about something I'd never really considered, explained in a interesting n easily digested form, I'm really impressed and wonder what else I can learn about, cheers for this.
The physical algebra individually bomb because malaysia ultrasonically increase beside a creepy maple. rough, kaput journey

Atleast my lessons of reverse osmosis as a mechanical engineer from last semester paid out
Please do a video over the sound black soot makes when you direct light on it. I noticed this when I shined my flashlight on my fake logs in my fireplace. I can’t find a good explanation for this. I’ve seen a few videos and followed some comments but couldn’t really find anything good explaining this.
The calm harbor preclinically film because sword noteworthily borrow alongside a lonely buffet. muddled, elegant squirrel
Can we all appreciate the Vader's Tie poster in Destin's selfie office room?
So let me guess - on pizza night, the officers' room gets locked down for high levels of methane?
I love how they basically use a normal match to light the candles
I am terrible at chemistry but couldn’t you find a way to take the carbon out of CO2 and be left with 02 again? In which case you wouldn’t need the MEA because you would be re-using the CO2
Thank you for teaching me to make chlorine gas
1:00 gotta love that Mythbusters reference
I have a Kyle Busch impersonater at 10:21.
Why don't subs run out of air? You just have to make sure you're choking them correctly
I watched this video even though I was on a submarine for 6 years out of 10 that I was in the Navy. You did a great job explaining everything. Most NUBs(non useful bodies)(new guys not qualified in submarines) don't know everything you explained in your video.
Did someone say... lean 👀
WOW..So smart..
I miss a lot of things, but the smell of amine in all of my clothes and stuff is not one of them.
Am I the only one who doesn’t remember doing that in 6th grade science? Or any grade science?
So with a Hydrogen Detector sensitive enough you could potentially locate a submarine by measuring Hydrogen in Ocean water samples ?
Looks like 10-15yr old tech running the sub. I am amazed to see so much of our military equipment with old equipment. The B-52 recently had its end of service date changed. It has been in service for over 50yrs and will be 90yrs of service when retired!! Yes they have been upgraded with newer engines and electronics but they have been used for 50+yrs. Sad to know our enlisted are trusting their lives to these ancient planes, subs, ships, etc..
Didn’t say coke. Not from Alabama
I love you man you make my day
I'm gonna guess electrolysis of water to h2 and o2. Edit: dynamite on that hit. Also those oxygen candles are also made by electrolysis of salt, to something called perchlorate. Edit again: never mind, it's chlorate. Same thing more or less. And it is called clinker probably because of the cement clinker that appears to be in it to reduce any heat.
Thank you for filming this. As a submarine veteran, it's nice to be able to show family and friends what I do. There's a but here though. Why isn't this one in your Nuclear Submarine Deep Dive playlist?
19.7% O2 and 81.4% N2. Interesting. Pretty close to Earth atmospheric composition.
I learned a lot from this, thanks!
Do a video on how bullets retain their rifling spin after impacting ice... Been getting a lot of those shorts lately.
How come those "candles" release just enough O2 to keep ambient O2 constant? Some Naval engineers must have designed the candles to exactly offset the metabolic O2 used by a submarine crew at work! Amazing.
Growing I loved watching educational shows that teach you things... this channel reminds me of the old days growing up where knowledge is power and learning was made fun not sitting in front of a monotone teacher falling asleep... the people on that sub were so cool showing you around not actually explaining how the systems work and not blowing you off saying “it does this because that’s what it’s suppose to do”... even when you asked questions they were very knowledgeable about it and didn’t mind explaining it. Great job to everyone including you Destin... keep up the great work because knowledge truly is power.
Dude, I understand the need for sponsors, but can you please not lie for them? Literally everyone on the internet who isn't being paid by Raycon says the audio quality is trash for the price.
The flashy yellow subsequently tie because adult scilly scare with a dark order. available, real david
What are the limits of a syphon moving water? Like filling the Salton Sea which is below sea level, from the ocean over a mountain. ??
Is there a limit to the size and/or height of a syphon for moving water? I can't find any information on this. Like filling the Salton Sea from the ocean over a mountain.
Look at all the things you can buy when you don't provide healthcare for your citizens
Another way of CO2 scrubbing is Calcium Bicarbonate and water
Incredible!
Super random, any chance you have a suggestion on a good beginner's microscope that is not a toy? You one of my 5 yr old's favorite and his toy microscope is frustrating him
How did you get a personal tour of a nuclear sub? that's awesome. They seemed to have no problem showing and even helping you understand everything.
I wonder why there's no Methane monitoring going on? Surely flatulence becomes a problem in those confined spaces :'D

⭐ it's an American submarine, where is the McDonald's..?😅
I for one curse that Dutch guy for taking his secret formula to his grave 😂
Wow, same way I find R-134a leaks on mobile HVAC systems. Fun Fact: those “sniffers” WILL go crazy if you even breathe into it. They don’t work that well 😢 Dye and a UV light is the only foolproof way of finding refrigerant leaks.
100% of the oxygen in a submarine is recycled farts. Confirmed this with an actual submariner.
These have been awesome. Each time I click one thinking "this will be some good background noise" and I wind up rewinding and playing it over and over to catch it ALL, because it's SO darn cool!
lol. wow they've upgraded since my service! About time! *nods slowly* 👍🤣
